My studio is located at the edge of Northern Virginia centered between Washington, D.C. and Richmond, Va. I grew up out here and like many kids moved away to explore life and grow. After my husband and I started our family, it took a while but we eventually wound up right back where I started… the Virginian countryside. It’s beautiful and peaceful here and for us, a fantastic place to raise our four boys.

I tend to know a few things in the following areas and hope to help you out should you like to learn and share what you know...

Decorating with Portraits & other Artwork

I’ve heard it time and again, “I’m not creative”. I HATE hearing that. We are all creative and as a former teacher, I LOVE it when I see my students and kids create. I’ve taught for the last 20 years and I can tell you I haven’t met a person that can’t be creative in one way or another.

My favorite thing about being creative is you’re able to create a space specific to you and your family’s needs. I love pulling out paints or my camera and seeing what can come of it.

One thing I heard from a lot of my teachers was as an artist, I needed to learn to get out of my own way. Well, I find that so very true - when we stop too much to worry about what other’s will say or think, we prevent ourselves from just allowing ourselves to just be.

I find I get the best results from clients and from myself when I allow the subject of an art piece to simply be. When you exist in the space you’re meant to occupy, there is a magic that happens and it's simply beautiful.

Basic design principles

As with anything, there are always rules to be learned. As much as I’d love to say anything goes, that often can lead to not very good results. I want to share with you some basic principles that are constant in all forms of design. Things like:

  • Balance

  • Contrast

  • Dominance

  • Emphasis

  • Rhythm

  • And much more

And how they relate to our environment and sometimes life itself.

The mom life

As much as I’d like to say being a photographer is the most important thing to me, it's not. My husband tells me I’m too honest - but hey that me… honest to a fault. See the most important thing to me is my family. The 5 men in my life and our 2 dogs have been the center of my life for nearly 20 years and I wouldn’t change it.

Without them, there would be no need for my art, my writing or anything else. That being said, I fell into the mom trap (you know you give so much of yourself, you end up lost and empty) and I’ve learned the importance of having balance and placing oneself first at times.

Rebalancing life & health

This one is new for me. As I wade my way through these waters, I’d love to bring you along. We can learn new things together. I’ve begun to understand the importance of giving ourselves a break from the everyday ho hum of life.

This is one of the things I love about what I do. I’m able to allow people the chance to relax just for a bit and recenter themselves. I encourage my clients to visualize their ideal selves. We then work on bringing that to fruition. Most importantly, they’re encouraged to print out the images we’ve created not only to look at but to remember. I want them to remember that they are beautiful and that they can be their very own ideal.

I hope that by participating in a session with me, they are able to begin a process of rediscovering themselves and bringing better health and balance into their lives.

If you've read this far, then I’m hoping it means you’re just excited as I am to begin this journey. I look forward to sharing it with you and getting to know you, my friend.

Life is good. Take time to enjoy your spaces and those you share them with.

What would you like to know more about in the four spheres I mentioned above? I'd love to know your thoughts. Leave a comment below or book a session and we can talk about them in person.
